PART 28

For my 30th birthday I want a trip around the solar system. It can be a small rocket with streamers and black coffee and turtle cheesecake. I’ll only need a few friends and cheap champagne and no smoking is allowed. The first half of the trip will be spent in giant sleeping bags filled with those weird hand warmers you use on camping trips. And we’ll watch all my favorite movies. Empire of the Sun, Raising Arizona, There Will Be Blood, Adaptation, Paper Moon. And all the while…. eating snacks only by throwing them into each others mouths. The 2nd half; we fill one fourth of the room with currents of warm, warm water and we’ll wade to different windows to watch planets travel by. Paul Simon will be playing over soft speakers and everyone will not be able to stop smiling. I’ll hold spur of the moment contests on who can come up with the most creative haiku for a moon that is passing by. We will climb ladders against the walls and slowly drop into the pool we created. The splashes will be small and celebratory. We will try to guess words people are saying underwater. Whoever wins gets a star named after their 1st pet. We’ll watch the sun set over a unnamed planet. Nothing will be wasted or forgotten. No one will go to sleep hungry or sad or afraid. Everyone will wake up back on Earth.
