PART 26

My mother just learned how to text this week. I woke up this morning with a message on my phone saying, “Donnie Corbet has a cannon in his front yard!” I don’t know who Donnie Corbet is, but I bet he is fairly interesting. Or maybe he just thinks he is interesting. Or maybe he just wants others to think he is interesting. He probably sits at home looking through vintage Hardy Boys books learning what the crabby, odd neighbor’s behavior patterns are like. “Ah! Ol’ Man Thompson had a cannon huh?” The next week: cannon in his front yard.I bet he has different sized boxes filled with eye patches and rat skulls and treasure maps and mannequin hands and jewel incrusted walking canes and mood rings and long cigarette holders. And if you asked him why… Ol’ Donnie would probably whisper, “Some things are better left alone. Some things are better left to stir in the dark without reason.” Then, He’ll flip a gold coin in the air to rotate over the fox head mounted above him and walk away to tend to his cannon.
